Little Braxted Bridge – Essential repairs and protection measures

Please be aware of upcoming essential works at Little Braxted Bridge, located on Little Braxted Lane in Witham. These works are scheduled to take place from Monday 21 July until the end of August 2025.

The bridge currently has a 3-tonne weight limit in place to protect its structure. To further reinforce this restriction and safeguard the bridge’s continued use, we will be installing a 2 metres (6’-6’’) width restriction. This will help prevent larger vehicles from crossing the bridge.

Advance warning signs will be installed at key locations in the surrounding area to give drivers sufficient notice of the new restriction.

In addition, we will be carrying out refurbishment works, including painting the bridge’s steel elements and undertaking concrete and brickwork repairs.

To support these works, the bridge will be fully closed to vehicles from 21 July until the works are complete. Signed diversion routes will be in place throughout the closure. Please note that the schedule may be subject to change if we experience unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions.

A dedicated webpage has been created, which contains full details about these works: https://www.essexhighways.org/little-braxted-bridge-witham and details are also available on One.Network
