PARISH COUNCIL FACILITIES & SERVICES

The Council owns two Recreation Grounds, the Cricket Field and four other Open Spaces.

The Totham Hill Recreation Ground in Braxted Lane was originally fitted out by a local fund raising group and has since been enhanced by the Parish Council. It includes a small wooded area with walks. Play equipment is in place at Bull Green, an open space in Maldon Road created by the Council on land purchased from Essex County Council.

Totham Hill Green and the Green at Colchester Road are registered as ancient Village Greens. The Cricket Field was purchased by the Parish Council in 1985 and later added to by the purchase of land near the pavillion. The Great Totham Cricket Club maintains the playing area.

To hire or run clubs on any of our Open Spaces please contact the Parish Clerk for a copy of the policy and booking form.

The Council owns two bus shelters at Maldon Road, near the Post Office and Colchester Road. The Shelter near the Post Office was built as a memorial to those from the Parish killed in the service of their country in the second world war.

Bull Green and Totham Hill Green each have Village signs sculpted by a local resident to the design of a local young person chosen in a competition.

The Village Hall is a charitable trust run by a committee representing the users. It is not owned by the Parish Council.

THE PARISH COUNCIL & ENFORCEMENT

The Council uses the services of the Maldon District Council’s Community Protection Officers to carry out patrols of the recreation grounds and open spaces as well as carrying out speed checks and prosecutions and monitoring illegal parking.

Trained local volunteers also carry out speed checks and reporting of offenders under the Speedwatch Scheme. New volunteers are welcomed.

THE PARISH COUNCIL & CONSULTATION

Parish Council’s may be informed and consulted by  Essex County and Maldon District Councils and other bodies when major policies are formulated or reviewed. These consultations are also advertised inviting the public to respond.

The Council is also consulted on individual Planning Applications made for properties within the Parish. Responses must be made within a set time limit and must be based on planning legislation and the local plans in place. It is important to note that the Parish Council is one of a number of consultees and does not make the planning decisions.

Great Totham has a local plan in place which was created by a local group of volunteers working with the Parish Council. A copy is available here.
